becomes real
when we recognize
our shared humanity.”

Pema Chödrön

"For I was hungry
and you fed me...
I was sick and
you looked after me
I was a stranger
and you invited me in
I was in prison
and you visited me."

    How you can participate

Our volunteers put in a lot of time and sacrifice just to
get to these often remote jails, prisons, mental health
and juvenile centers.  Although we are uncompensated
at present there are numerous expenses. You too can
invest in this rebuilding lives by making a one-time
    donation or a monthly pledge.

Yoga And Mindfulness Outreach is a 501c nonprofit, tax-
    deductible organization.

We also have an ongoing need for yoga mats, books,
printing, administrative help and volunteer teachers.

     For those interested in teaching

You often find in the students a rare level of
dedication. But that is what we require from the
    teacher too -- commitment, self-motivation and a
love of service. One must also have a well-established
meditation practice. The rewards are great! You can
see and feel the transformations-- in others and in

A volunteer has flexibility in how much time they
give or how often in a month they come in.

Areas of competency can include yoga, meditation,
counseling, personal training, reiki, etc. To find out

    A typical volunteer reaction:

"Teaching in prison has brought me into contact with
extraordinary individuals who show a degree of
compassion, intelligence, patience, kindness, and good
humor in the face of adversity that frequently puts me
to shame, but more often inspires me to practice more
    seriously myself!"
